SLES 15 SP4 installation using MD/RAID 1 over SAN disk on IBM Power 10 hangs

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP4 (SLES 15 SP4)
IBM Power 10 Server
Linux Software RAID 1 (MD/RAID)
Device Mapper Multipath

Situation

While installing SLES 15 SP4 on MD/RAID 1 from multipath SAN disks on an IBM Power 10 Logical Partition (LPAR), the installation hangs. The hang occurs right after making software package selection and clicking the install button.

The issue is isolated to SLES 15 SP4.

Resolution

There are a couple of possibilities:

First, install directly to the MD-Multipath device and exclude MD/RAID from the configuration.
Second, update the IBM Power 10 hardware.

Cause

This is a hardware issue.
