Manager services fail after using redeploy

This document (000020515) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Enterprise Storage 7

Situation

After using "ceph orch redeploy" to redeploy the Managers, the redeployed managers immediately fail after startup:

Nov 22 15:23:30 <$host> systemd[1]: ceph-<$cluster_fsid>@mgr.<$host>.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=143/n/a
Nov 22 15:23:30 <$host> systemd[1]: Stopped Ceph mgr.<$host> for <$cluster_fsid>.
Nov 22 15:23:30 <$host> systemd[1]: ceph-<$cluster_fsid>@mgr.<$host>.service: Unit entered failed state.
Nov 22 15:23:30 <$host> systemd[1]: ceph-<$cluster_fsid>@mgr.<$host>.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.

Resolution

Do not use redeploy, instead remove the Managers and the orchestrator should deploy new manager services automatically if the default managed mode is used.

Cause

Redeploy with the Ceph Octopus version is broken and should be avoided.

Additional Information

To remove a service instead of using redeploy execute:

ceph orch daemon rm mgr.<$hostname>
