couldn't open file '/var/log/account/pacct': No such file or directory

This document (000020336) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP5
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP4 (LTSS)

Situation

Executing "lastcomm" (from the package "acct") shows the error:

# lastcomm
couldn't open file '/var/log/account/pacct': No such file or directory

Resolution

A PTF (temporary fix) has been created by engineering.
The patch changes the path used in the code so that it is consistent with the one used in the systemd service.

The SLES12 SP5 acct update released August 2021 includes the patch.

Cause

The location of the pacct file was changed from /var/account/pacct to /var/log/account/pacct.
Some commands of the acct package still look for it in the old path, resulting in the error 'No such file or directory'.
