Systemd agetty reporting "cannot open as standard input"

This document (000019605) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP2
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP3
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP4
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP5

Situation

The cause of this issue is quite incomprehensible. It seems the getty@.service had been enabled using an older systemd version.

Resolution

The most common reason for this issue is a wrong file under:
/etc/systemd/system/getty.target.wants:
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   38 Aug 30  2018 getty@.service -> /usr/lib/systemd/system/getty@.service

Once the above file is removed reboot the system or run:
systemctl stop getty@getty.service

Cause

systemd is reporting too many errors every minute like:
agetty[18883]: /dev/getty: cannot open as standard input: No such file or directory
agetty[18885]: /dev/getty: cannot open as standard input: No such file or directory
agetty[18893]: /dev/getty: cannot open as standard input: No such file or directory
agetty[18896]: /dev/getty: cannot open as standard input: No such file or directory
agetty[18898]: /dev/getty: cannot open as standard input: No such file or directory
agetty[18904]: /dev/getty: cannot open as standard input: No such file or directory
