Installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP1 on a system using both Multipath and Raid fails

This document (7024006) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 Service Pack 1

Situation

A SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 Service Pack 1 installation, on a system combining multipath with RAID stops with the error message "Unexpected situation found in the system".

Resolution

If using a setup combining multipath with RAID and the installer does not detect the setup correctly, use the boot option "autoassembly=0".

Cause

In the installation environment, the udev logic to determine if a device should be treated as a multi-path device path is disabled, and thus no device path will be classified as such.

Additional Information

Starting from SLES 15-SP2  auto-assembly is disabled (autoassembly=0) by default.
