Application suffers an unexpected timeout with specific kernel versions.

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 (SP4)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 (GA and Service Pack 1-4)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 (GA and Service Pack 1)


It was found that there is a potential issue in the following Kernel versions:

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11

   SP4 - 3.0.101-108.95.2

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12

    SP1 - 3.12.74-60.64.115
    SP2 - 4.4.121-92.114
    SP3 - 4.4.180-94.97
    SP4 - 4.12.14-95.19.1

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15

    SP1 - 4.12.14-197.4.1

If the following Symptoms show up, your system could be affected:

The application suffers an unexpected timeout. Further investigation shows that a big amount of data was sent and got stuck.
So far this has been seen on SAP application but it could also affected other processes as well.

For any other kernel,  downgrade to the previous kernel and apply the workaround described in:
