Autoyast error during auto-installation of SLES 15: "could not set patterns: 32bit ... "

This document (7023579) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15
SUSE Manager 3.2
SUSE Manager 3.1

Situation

During the auto-installation some patterns can not be installed.

Examples could be:
32bit, base-32bit, basesystem, documentation, enhanced_base, enhanced_base-32bit...

As a result, the process is stopped and auto-installation is not possible.

Resolution

Either the autoyast.xml file should be tuned so that it is possible to fetch packages from an external source (SMT or SUSE Manager), or simply the packages ISO should be mounted and be accessible somewhere.

A suggestion would be to use the web server integrated in any SUSE Manager or SMT.

With a SUSE Manager, the SLE 15 packages ISO could be mounted anywhere under the directory /srv/www/htdocs/pub and autoyast could be instructed to use it with something similar to:

<?xml version="1.0"?>
<!DOCTYPE profile>
<profile xmlns="http://www.suse.com/1.0/yast2ns" xmlns:config="http://www.suse.com/1.0/configns">
<add-on>
   <add_on_products config:type="list">
     <listentry>
       <media_url><![CDATA[http://susemanager.domain.com/pub/mounted-isos/sles15_packages]]></media_url>
       <product>sle-module-server-applications</product>
       <product_dir>/Module-Server-Applications</product_dir>
     </listentry>
     <listentry>
       <media_url><![CDATA[http://susemanager.domain.com/pub/mounted-isos/sles15_packages]]></media_url>
       <product>sle-module-basesystem</product>
       <product_dir>/Module-Basesystem</product_dir>
     </listentry>
   </add_on_products>
</add-on>

Cause

The cause for this problem is the separation of packages into an installation DVD and packages DVD.
The reason for this is that SLE 15 was thought to be installed online.

Should no online resources be available, these need to be provided somehow, for instance by using the packages DVD or ISO.
