Classless static routes (option 121) with NSX-v and SLES 12 SPx leave system without default route

This document (7018010) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 12
SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 12 Service Pack 1 (SLED 12 SP1)

Situation

When enabling additional classless static routes in VMware NSX DHCP server, SLES 12 systems will not get the default route, which has been set with the default route option.

Resolution

As a workaround add the default route to the additional classless static routes.
VMware is already working on a fix.

Cause

The cause is described in RFC3442

....
If the DHCP server returns both a Classless Static Routes option and
a Router option, the DHCP client MUST ignore the Router option.
