LVM RA reports "Improper setup detected" with exclusive (PACEMAKER COROSYNC)

This document (7014216) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 11 Service Pack 2

Situation

After an update from any resource-agent version to resource-agent version 3.9.5-0.6.26.11 Volume Groups controlled by the Cluster via the LVM Resource Agent with the

  exclusive="true"

parameter set fail to start with Errors similar to

Dec  3 15:21:52 baubas LVM(vg_start)[14098]: [14120]: ERROR: LVM: Improper setup detected
Dec  3 15:21:52 baubas LVM(vg_start)[14098]: [14122]: ERROR: The volume_list filter must be initialized in lvm.conf for exclusive activation without clvmd

Resolution

This issue is resolved by setting in

   /etc/lvm/lvm.conf

in the section "activation" the parameter

   volume_list = [ ]

An example would look like

activation {

    volume_list = [ ]

    # Device used in place of missing stripes if activating incomplete volume.

Cause

The reason for this is that an improvement in the LVM Resource Agent checks now also for this setting in the LVM configuration file.

With the Resource-agents Version 3.9.5-0.6.26.11 set the parameter

   volume_list = [ ]

in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf

With any Resource-agents before 3.9.5-0.6.26.11 do NOT set the parameter

   volume_list = [ ]

in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf

Additional Information

This new setting in lvm.conf,  volume_list = [ ], does not work with the old Resource Agent. If set it will fail instead  with

Dec  3 15:18:58 baubas LVM(vg_start)[13045]: [13063]: ERROR: Ignoring invalid string in config file activation/volume_list Not activating
