SLE11 based systems report Cannot find firmware file

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 1

Situation

On SLES11SP1 or SP2 based systems, the following message might get experienced in dmesg

[   48.546510] microcode: CPU0 sig=0x206d7, pf=0x1, revision=0x708

or /var/log/messages:

Aug 21 16:01:23 linux firmware.sh[2113]: Cannot find  firmware file 'intel-ucode/06-2d-07'

Resolution

To install the latest microcode for x86 or x86_64 based CPUs please install the latest microcode_ctl package available or contact the hardware vendor. This RPM provides the necessary files to update the microcode for AMD or Intel CPUs.
