YaST2 allows usage of devices as physical volume for LVM twice

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 2

Situation

When configuring volume groups for LVM, YaST2 allows the use of an already used physical volume and creates the new volume group as zero byte volume group in the main overview window. When trying to finish the operation YaST2 reports
 
[YCP] clients/inst_prepdisk.ycp:65 CommitChanges ret:-4004

in /var/log/YaST2/y2log.

Resolution

Update to yast2-storage to 2.17.127.2-0.5.3 and yast2-storage-lib to 2.17.127.2-0.5.3 or any later version.
