Time synchronization of virtual SLES10SP3 on MS Hyper-V

This document (7007755) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 3
Microsoft Hyper-V

Situation

Time in a virtual unpatched SLES10SP3 machine in Microsoft Hyper-V runs out of sync in between minutes.
Usual kernel parameters like clock=pmtr and clock=pit do not work.
Installation of Microsoft Linux Integration Services is not sufficent.
Enforce time synchronization of the virtual machine with Hyper -V host does not help.

Resolution

Apply a kernel Version 2.6.16.60-066.1 or higher and make sure to install the very latest Linux Integration Components available for SLES10.
