Conflicting Multipath I/O Solutions

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

Paths listed in multipath -ll are marked faulty.

# /sbin/multipath -ll
360000970000192600721533031334532 dm-9 EMC,SYMMETRIX
[size=1.6G][features=0][hwhandler=0]
\_ round-robin 0 [prio=1][active]
 \_ 1:0:0:0 sdf        8:80  [failed][faulty]
 \_ 0:0:0:0 sda        8:0   [active][ready]

Device mapper multipath and a third party multipath solution like EMC PowerPath or Vertias Dynamic Multipathing are running at the same time.

Resolution

Choose only one MPIO solution. If you choose to disable SUSE device mapper multipath, the steps are:
1. chkconfig boot.multipath off
2. chkconfig multipathd off
3. reboot

Cause

Two MPIO solutions were running concurrently.
