How to prevent LVM partition from being scanned when domUloader calls kpartx?

This document (7004813) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 High-Availability Extension

Situation

It is necessary to disable the automatic activation of LVM2 volume groups in the host during domUloader execution, since they do not automatically get deactivated, and would otherwise prevent a clean stop of the cluster resources.

Resolution

Disable automatic LVM scanning from udev by commenting out the below line from /lib/udev/rules.d/64-lvm2.rules:

# If all related PV's available already, active all LVs inside.
ENV{COLLECT}=="0", RUN+="/sbin/vgchange -a y $env{VGNAME}"

should be changed to:

# If all related PV's available already, active all LVs inside.
# ENV{COLLECT}=="0", RUN+="/sbin/vgchange -a y $env{VGNAME}"

After doing the above change, it is necessary to reboot all cluster nodes
