Here When You Need Us

startproc -p -i does not work together with -f

This document (7002856) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9

Situation

startproc is used to start processes identified by path of the executable.
Several options allow e.g. use of alternate pid files or to ignore a pid.
Together with option "-f" both "-p" (alternate pid) and "-i" (ignore pid) don't seem to work.,

Resolution

This is expected behaviour, yet the manpage is a bit misleading here
and seems to indicate that these options work together:

startproc  [-f]  [...]  [-p pid_file] [-i ignore_file] ...

"-f" forces the process to be started regardless of any other other option that
might prevent starting the process or alter .
