Found duplicate Physical Volumes (PV)

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10
Logical Volume Manager (LVM)

Situation

Following recurrent messages are seen in "/var/log/boot.msg" or in the output of commands related to the LVM devices like pvscan, vgscan, vgcreate etc ...

 Found duplicate PV z5xSggD1OBEqQ0hzaNMeV2l9ukPtH1J2: using /dev/sde not /dev/sdc
 Found duplicate PV a6jokSvyQMsFO69f1uXNtwjk1P0unRuK: using /dev/sdf not /dev/sdd
 Found duplicate PV z5xSggD1OBEqQ0hzaNMeV2l9ukPtH1J2: using /dev/sdg not /dev/sde
 Found duplicate PV a6jokSvyQMsFO69f1uXNtwjk1P0unRuK: using /dev/sdh not /dev/sdf
 Found duplicate PV z5xSggD1OBEqQ0hzaNMeV2l9ukPtH1J2: using /dev/sdi not /dev/sd

 

Resolution

Please change the lvm scanfilter according to the workflow in the Storage Admin Guide:


SLES10:
5.2.3 Using LVM2 on Multipath Devices


SLES11:
7.2.3 Using LVM2 on Multipath Devices


SLES12:
16.13 Using LVM2 on Multipath Devices
