Postfix: Cannot assign requested address

Postfix will not start
Errors in /var/log/mail
Error: "fatal: inet_addr_local[siocgif]: ioctl SIOCGIFNETMASK: Cannot assign requested address"
Error: "fatal: config variable inet_interfaces: host not found: ::1"
Error: "fatal: unknown mynetworks mask style value "" in","


This error is caused by Postfix attempting to bind to all the configured NICs or IP addresses. If there is a problem with one of these then Postfix will not start. In this case theproblem was caused by a badly configured virtual interface.

Delete the virtual interface and start Postfix
