Error while installing VMTools on Suse Linux Enterprise Server 10

This document (3231440) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10

Situation

Receive and error when trying to install VMTools on SLES 10
VMWare VMTools fail to install on SLES 10
ERROR: The Kernel defined by this directory of header files does not have the same address space size as your running kernel.

Resolution

Workaround:

There's a line in vmware-config-tools.pl that contains the "address space" error message mentioned above.
This line is in a logic expression. The expression ends in a return. It's 2 lines below the only line in the file containing the phrase "address space."
Comment out the return statement by placing a # in front of it.

There is no guarantee that this will work, but as always, make sure you have a good backup (snapshot) before performing this workaround.

Additional Information

This is an issue that needs to be addressed by VMWare. Until it is addressed on their end this workaround should work.
