Parameters in /etc/sysconfig/lvm on SLES12 do not change LVM behavior

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)

Situation

The LVM_VGS_ACTIVATED_ON_BOOT and LVM_ACTIVATED_ON_DISCOVERED parameters in /etc/sysconfig/lvm do not affect the behavior of the LVM service on SLES12 after an upgrade from SLES11.

Resolution

Remove the /etc/sysconfig/lvm file.

Cause

This /etc/sysconfig/lvm configuration file is no longer used on SLES12 systems and is only a remnant of the old SLES11 system. It is generated by a script included with the lvm2 package on SLES11 and is not contained within the package, itself; Therefore, it is not cleaned up when upgrading the lvm2 package to the version on SLES12.

Additional Information

The default behavior for lvm2 on SLES12 is to automatically activate volume groups and logical volumes contained within said groups for all discovered physical volumes as long as all physical volumes in the volume group are present, making both of these sysconfig parameters obsolete.

The auto-activation behavior can be tuned in the /etc/lvm/lvm.conf file by uncommenting the auto_activation_volume_list parameter and including or omitting logical volume names should any volumes not be activated automatically.
