Unable to start Oracle 12 database using High Availability Extension resource agent for Oracle

This document (7018429) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 12
SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 11 Service Pack 4
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 (SLES 11 SP4)

Situation

When trying to start an Oracle database via the the Oracle resource agent, one or more of the following errors is seen in /var/log/messages.

ERROR: could not create OCFMONPROFILE oracle profile

ERROR: sqlplus output: create profile OCFMONPROFILE limit FAILED_LOGIN_ATTEMPTS UNLIMITED PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME UNLIMITED

                       * ERROR at  line 1: ORA-65140: invalid common profile name

ERROR: monprofile must start with C## for container databases

ERROR: monuser must start with C## for container databases

Resolution

With Oracle 12 container based databases,  the monprofile and monuser parameters must start with 'C##'
Example:
Instance attributes:  sid              orcl
                               home          /opt/oracle/product/12cR1/db
                               monprofile   C##monprof1
                               monuser     C##monitor1

Note:  The monitor profile entry should be auto-created if it does not already exists.

Remember to edit the /etc/oratab file (if it exists) and set the database Y/N start field to 'N' so that the HAE Oracle resource agent can be responsible for the start/stop of the database.

Note:  Always use the latest resource agents available for the version of SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension being used (search for 'resource-agents' under the appropriate product/version on patch finder).
