supportconfig-. "ERROR: Invalid SR Number, -r 101012345678"

This document (7017476) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 (SLES 11 SP4)
Open Enterprise Server 2015 (OES 2015) Linux

Situation

supportconfig fails with:

ERROR: Invalid SR Number, -r 123456789012
       Must be an 11 digit numeric value.

Resolution

Update supportconfig using the "updateSupportutils" package. See the Cool Solution "supportconfig for Linux".

Or, as a workaround, run as root:

sed -i s/SRLEN=11/SRLEN=12/ /sbin/supportconfig

supportconfig will then accept the new 12 digit service request id

Then, run support config as usual, from the command line:

supportconfig -ur <12 digit SR Number>

Or, simply omit the "-ur" option and upload the supportconfig archive manually.
The script will display the filename at the end of the process.

Cause

Since April 2016 Service Requests are identified with a 12 digit number instead of 11 digits.
supportutils 1.20-115.2 and older can't handle that.

An update  for supportutils is in preparation. This document will be updated with the minimum required version when released.
Minimum required versions:

* SLES/SLED12: supportutils-3.0-74.1
* SLES/SLED11: supportutils-1.20-118.1

Make sure the system is registered to an update server, then just use "zypper patch" to install all available updates.
