SLES 11 SP3 x86_64 kernel misses w83627ehf kernel driver to support hwmon features.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3 (SLES 11 SP3)

Situation

Many Intel based desktop and server boards are equipped with Winbond W83627DHG-P super I/O chips.
The W83627DHG-P super I/O chips provide support for hardware monitoring features such as for example Fan and Temperature sensors.

The Linux kernel driver to control these sensors is the w83627ehf.ko driver. Although the x86_64 kernel sources for this driver existed, the driver itself was not included in the x86_64 kernel, but was included with the x86 kernel.

As per the kernel release notes :
x86:   SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 for x86
x86_64:   SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 SP3 for AMD64 & Intel 64

Resolution

The w83627ehf.ko driver is added to the x86_64 kernel.

Cause

The w83627ehf.ko kernel driver was initially requested to be included with the x86 kernel only.
It was an oversight that it was not also added to x86_64.
