mgr-ncc-sync hangs on command line or fails to sync channels in SSH Push enabled environments

This document (7013245) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager 1.7

Situation

When running mgr-ncc-sync on a SUSE Manager system configured for SSH Push, the command hangs after execution and does not return to a prompt. In /var/log/rhn/rhn_taskomatic_daemon.log the following messages are displayed before logging stops:
INFO | jvm 1 | 2013/08/27 17:10:18 | 2013-08-27 17:10:18,920 [Thread-242]
WARN com.redhat.rhn.taskomatic.task.SSHPush - Connection timed out
INFO | jvm 1 | 2013/08/27 17:10:18 | 2013-08-27 17:10:18,920 [Thread-243]
WARN com.redhat.rhn.taskomatic.task.SSHPush - Connection timed out

Resolution

Adjust the firewall on the client accordingly. An alternative to SSH Push would be to configured the system to use osad to retrieve actions from SUSE Manager (for environments where applicable).  A PTF for SSH Push enabled environments is available, please contact SUSE Technical Services until a maintenance update is available.

Cause

The SSH Push Connection timeouts cause taskomatic stop progressing requests, resulting in hanging mgr-ncc-sync commands or failing repo sync requests in the Web UI.
