Incorrect TOTEM Configuration for Cluster

This document (7012121) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 11 (HAE)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11

Situation

The cluster is configured for multiple rings in the Totem Redundant Ring Protocol. However, the rrp_mode is turned off. The totem section of the /etc/corosync/corosync.conf file shows:

totem {
  rrp_mode:       none
  interface {
    bindnetaddr:  45.184.4.0
    mcastaddr:    226.94.1.53
    mcastport:    5405
    ringnumber:   0
  }
  interface {
    bindnetaddr:  130.170.226.0
    mcastaddr:    226.94.2.53
    mcastport:    5415
    ringnumber:   1
  }
}

Resolution

Change the rrp_mode to active or passive.
1. Edit /etc/corosync/corosync.conf
2. Change rrp_mode: none to rrp_mode: [active or passive]
3. Save and exit
4. Reboot the node

If you only have one interface, rrp_mode should be set to none.

Cause

When having defined redundant communication channels in Corosync, use RRP to tell the cluster how to use these interfaces. RRP can have three modes (rrp_mode): if set to active, Corosync uses both interfaces actively. If set to passive, Corosync sends messages alternatively over the available networks. If rrp_mode is set to none, RRP is disabled.
