SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 12 SP5

SUSE® is pleased to announce the availability of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 12 SP5 to all customers worldwide.

This is the next version of our real-time offering that is based on (and includes) the SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 platform. This version includes major updates and shares hardware enablement with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP5.

Product Information

SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 12 SP5 is specifically engineered to reduce latency, increase predictability and the reliability of time-sensitive, mission-critical applications.

The product is a fully supported real-time operating system based on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP5 and is designed to work with SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension 12 SP5.

Organizations that need to tightly control process execution will benefit from tools that enable easy identification of timing problems. Virtualization support reduces hardware costs by increasing the density of real-time systems on a single server or allowing a single server to support both real-time and standard-virtual machines.

Real Time

SUSE Real Time 12 SP5 provides a complete set of essential features for:

  • Kernel preemption: fast response to external events, optimized kernel sections
  • CPU shielding: dedicated resources such as CPUs and memory for high-priority processes
  • Priority inheritance: raised priority in case of lock contention
  • Interrupt threads: combine interrupts into threads, which can be prioritized and assigned to specific CPUs
  • High-resolution timers: improved accuracy for better process accounting and synchronization
  • Ittng-module has been updated to 2.10.10
  • kernel-rt_debug is included in the media

SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 SP5 Code Base

  • SUSE Real Time 12 SP5 is based on (and includes) SUSE Linux Enterprise 12 SP5 and shares certifications and hardware enablement with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP5
  • Management and setup are similar to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and other SUSE Linux Enterprise extensions

Architecture Support

SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 12 SP5 is supported on the x86-64 (Intel64, AMD 64) architecture only.
