SUSE Executives to Keynote Linux Foundation Conferences

August 27, 2012

Nuremburg, Germany

SUSE® today announced that SUSE executives Michael Miller and Ralf Flaxa will deliver keynote speeches at Linux Foundation’s upcoming CloudOpen 2012 and LinuxCon Europe 2012 conferences.  Miller, vice president of Global Marketing and Alliances for SUSE, will keynote at CloudOpen to be held August 29-30, 2012 in San Diego. Flaxa, vice president of Engineering for SUSE will keynote at LinuxCon Europe to be held November 5-7 in Barcelona.

Co-located with LinuxCon North America conference, Miller’s keynote will focus on why Linux is the natural operating system for the cloud.

“Linux as a technology, with its transparent development and licensing model, has been key to the rise of cloud computing. As cloud advances beyond just test and development, and we see more enterprises use the cloud in production, it will be critical that these Linux workloads are fully supported as well.”

Miller will share perspectives from SUSE customers that are having early success with their cloud implementations by using cloud as the impetus for conversations between IT and their lines of business.  Taking a service-oriented approach is the next step in the evolution of cloud computing, which is why IT must work with their business users to redefine how to work together in order to standardize certain services such as databases, which eases workload deployment.

Flaxa leads the worldwide development team for SUSE Linux solutions. He’s been contributing to the Linux community since 1991. At LinuxCon Europe, Flaxa will talk about the next evolution in enterprise Linux software development by first discussing SUSE’s early roots in Germany as an open source company to the global adoption of Linux all over the world.

“I’m very excited to be speaking at LinuxCon Europe as it will bring together some of the most diverse groups of Linux enthusiasts across the continent,” Flaxa said.  “As someone who’s been immersed in Linux for over two decades, I’m looking forward to sharing with attendees what I see as the next evolution of Linux including  how the UI is changing due to tablets, smart phones and small devices and what affect this will have on cloud computing, the consumer market and enterprise organizations.”
