Release Notes

Publication date: 2014-06-17

1 General

SUSE Studio Onsite is an easy-to-use software tool installed inside the enterprise network that allows you to rapidly build and test hardware, software, and virtual appliances based on SUSE Linux Enterprise. SUSE Studio Onsite provides similar core functions like the SUSE Studio Online Web service. SUSE Studio Onsite 1.3 supports SLE10 SP4 and SLE11 SP2 as base operating systems for appliances. It allows building 32-bit X86 and 64-bit X86-64 appliances.

SUSE Studio Onsite 1.3 is shipping as a software appliance. Therefore, it must be deployed on non-virtualized hosts.

2 Installation of SUSE Studio Onsite 1.3

There are 2 formats available for download:

  • Bootable DVD ISO image ‐ a wrapper to be booted via a DVD drive. It provides the option to copy the appliance to a disk.

  • Raw disk image - to be copied directly to a disk.

For a description how to install SUSE Studio Onsite 1.3, refer to the installation instructions available at http://download.novell.com (http://download.novell.com).

2.1 Activation with Subscription Management Tool 11 for SUSE Linux Enterprise (SMT-11)

SMT-11 can be used in situations where SUSE Studio Onsite instance cannot connect Novell Customer Center directly (e.g., in case host is not connected to internet).

For registering SUSE Studio Onsite against an SMT server, click the SMT link during the registration step of SUSE Studio Onsite.

After synchronizing with the Novell Customer Center, the SMT 11 instance will support the SUSE Studio Onsite product. Check the synchronization with the command smt list-products. For SUSE Studio Onsite registration to work properly, make sure the following catalogs are mirrored by the SMT 11 server:

  • SLE11-SP2-StudioOnsite-1.3-Pool

  • SLE11-SP2-StudioOnsite-1.3-Updates
