Abstract
These release notes apply to SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 Service Pack 4 for the x86_64 architecture.

The kernel has inherited hardware enablement and new features of SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 kernel.
The latest stable 3.0 PREEMPT_RT has been incorporated into the service pack.
LTTng has been updated to version 2.1.1 to take advantage of the community project maturing.
LTTng Userspace Tracing has been fully enabled in the product.
Support for Precision Time Protocol version 2 has been included in SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 Service Pack 4 as a technology preview. For taking advantage of the precise time synchronization install the new linuxptp package and refer to the documentation in /usr/share/doc/packages/linuxptp/.
Direct upgrade from SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 Service Pack 3 is available and supported by either using ISO media or through an online repository.
Upgrade from SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 Service Pack 1 is supported by updating to SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 Service Pack 2 , and SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 Service Pack 3 first, and then installing SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 Service Pack 4.
To upgrade from SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 Service Pack 3 follow these steps:
Remove SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time 10 Service Pack 3 Add-On from SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 4.
Upgrade SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 Service Pack 4 to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4. Refer to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server documentation about supported upgrade procedures.
Install SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 Service Pack 4 Add-On.
Setting the default kernel in boot loader proposal during SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 installation with SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 Service Pack 4 Add-On has no effect. The Real Time kernel will be always selected as the default one.
SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time Extension 11 Service Pack 4 follows the same support policy as SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4.
