Copyright (c) 2009 Novell, Inc.

These release notes for SLERT 10 SP3 cover the following areas:

1.0 General

1.1 SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time

This release of SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time ships as an extension to the base SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP3.  This type of extension is called an "Add-On Product."  Please refer to the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 SP3 release notes for more information:

/usr/share/doc/release-notes/SUSE_Linux_Enterprise_10/RELEASE-NOTES.en.html

2.0 Upgrades from Earlier Versions

The supported upgrade path from earlier versions of SLERT10 involves uninstalling SLERT10, upgrading the underlying SLES10 to SP3 and installing SLERT10SP3.  Please see the README file in the root directory of the SLERT10SP3 media for full instructions on this procedure.

3.0 Installation

SLERT10SP3 is installed as an Add-On product on to SLES10SP3.  Please refer to the README file in the root directory of the SLERT10SP3 install media for detailed instructions on the YAST installation procedure.

4.0 Customer Center Registration / Update Channel

Novell Customer Center registration can only be performed when running the 2.6.16-based SLES 10 SP3 Kernel.

  • It is recommended that NCC registration be performed immediately after SLERT add-on installation, and before re-booting into the Real-Time Kernel.
  • NCC registration can also be performed at any time after SLERT installation, but requires a system reboot to the SLES 10 SP3 Kernel.

    5.0 Technical

    5.1 Multiprocessor optimization

    SUSE Linux Enterprise Real Time should run on Multiprocessor systems for maximum benefits.

    5.2 Enhancements and Features

    5.3 Adjusting the ifcfg-ibX IPoIB Network Configuration Files

    Installation of the ofed rpm will create two sample ifcfg-ibX configuration files under /etc/sysconfig/network. These files need to be correctly configured for your IPoIB configuration. As installed, they are set up for DHCP. If you need to use a static IP for your IPoIB configuration, then edit those files and change the value of IPADDR, NETMASK, NETWORK, and BROADCAST to your specifications. For example, ifcfg-ib0 could contain:
    BOOTPROTO='static'
    IPADDR='193.168.1.2'
    NETMASK='255.255.255.0'
    NETWORK='193.168.1.0'
    BROADCAST='193.168.1.255'
    REMOTE_IPADDR=''
    STARTMODE='onboot'
    WIRELESS='no'
    Don't forget to restart the network after the changes with the following command:
    /sbin/rcnetwork restart

    5.4 Known problems

    There are no known problems for SLERT10SP3 at release time.
