SLED10 : Lenovo t-series laptops

This document (3582681) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10

Situation

Drivers appear to not be operating on a t60, t60p, or t61 laptop manufactured by Lenovo. This may include (but not be limited to) the X3100 graphics accelerator, the wireless device (ipw3945), sound drivers (e.g. sound blaster adapters, etc).

Resolution

Download and install the drivers from Lenovo. At the time of this writing, they are available using the following process :
  1. Locate the Lenovo support and download page. The link should be :
    http://www.pc.ibm.com/us/notebooks/thinkpad/t-series/workstation.html
  2. In that document should be a link for Support and downloads for Linux compatible systems. This can be found searching for"downloads". Click on that link.
  3. Toward the bottom of that page should be two links, one being"Software and device drivers", and the other being "Hardware removal and installation". The first is for downloading the drivers needed, and the second is the instructions on setting the system up. It is suggested that, with t-series laptops, these instructions are followed on installation.Questions or concerns with the instructions should be directed to Lenovo.
Test the various drivers. Should a single driver fail, visit the website and look for a link called "Downloads and drivers". This link should allow the selection of the specific hardware platform.
