SUSE Delivers 2nd Generation eMail Server II For Professional E-mail Communication

January 12, 2001

Reliable and inexpensive e-mail solution for Linux users

Oakland, CA

Today, SUSE Linux, the international technology leader and solutions provider in Open Source operating system, presented the second generation of e-mail solutions for commerce, public administration, workgroups and all others needing professional e-mail communication.

The SUSE eMail Server II is an Open Source solution, based on reliable components consistent with Internet standards such as SMTP, IMAP4, POP3, and LDAP. In accordance with the IMAP standard (Internet Message Access Protocol), the SUSE eMail Server II administrates mail on a central server. Users now have access to their messages and folders via the Internet or their company LAN, independent from their respective location and the e-mail client they employ. The server supports all common e-mail clients, including Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Netscape Messenger, and Eudora. It can also be accessed with the included Web-Mail Client IMP. The user interface enables even inexperienced computer users to handle their mail with ease.

"The new SUSE eMail Server II allows a new degree of usability. With this new server application, Linux increases the value of a reliable and powerful platform that is simple and accessible to even the most inexperienced user", said Volker Wiegand, president of SUSE Inc. "SUSE eMail Server II is yet another component that builds on Linux performance and durability for enterprise computing."

The number of possible users for each e-mail server is unlimited and is only affected by the performance capacity of the server hardware. The SUSE Linux operating system uses hardware resources economically, allowing large e-mail pools to be maintained inexpensively with the SUSE eMail Server II. This guarantees low acquisition costs and a high security of investment.

The SUSE eMail Server II is available from the beginning of February onwards directly from SuSE. The suggested retail price for one server is $299 dollars and includes a manual, 60 days installation support and the server backup solution Arkeia from Knox Software. Additional technical support and consulting services for implementing this and a wide variety of other solutions are also available from SuSE.
