SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension, included with your SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for z Systems and LinuxONE subscription, reduces downtime and adds even more protection for your data.
SUSE offers the only clustered file system on the planet for Linux on z Systems—at no additional cost
z Systems hardware is celebrated throughout the IT world for its ability to manage mission-critical workloads, protect the integrity of sensitive data and preserve business continuity. IBM's line of mainframes has been known to run for years without interruption or planned downtime for maintenance. Your internal policies and customers' service level agreements, however, may require even higher levels of protection for your data and workloads.
With the SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension, you can cluster your Linux servers and applications to enable systems failover and rapid recovery should disaster strike. Our Linux platform is the only operating system for the mainframe that includes advanced high availability services with every subscription. The SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension delivers all the essential monitoring, messaging and cluster resource management features of third-party proprietary solutions in an integrated suite of open source technologies.
SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability Extension provides:
- Assurance of business continuity: Use our flexible, policy-driven clustering features to implement highly available Linux clusters and eliminate single points of failure. Should a fault or failure occur, the workload is transferred automatically to another server, or the application is automatically restarted on a known working system.
- Maintenance of data integrity: The High Availability Extension replicates data continuously and in real time. You can incrementally synchronize large databases and data repositories to slash data recovery times. Data integrity is protected through built-in locking mechanisms that ensure only one application can access shared storage at a time. Also included is the DRBD package for distributed replicated block devices, which supports synchronous and asynchronous mirroring and lightning-fast data resynchronization.
- The latest advancements in clustering technology: The High Availability Extension includes everything you need to implement mission-critical Linux clusters cost effectively. One such technology is OCFS2, a shared-disk POSIX-compliant generic cluster file system. Using the latest version of OCFS2, you can cluster a much wider range of applications with cluster-aware POSIX locking. You can also resize your clusters and add new nodes on the fly.
The High Availability Extension includes the ReaR package for node recovery, the ipvs package for network load balancing and SAP Resource Agents. In addition, it supports Clustered Samba/CTDB and Metro-Area-Cluster. All these technologies come with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for z Systems and LinuxONE at no additional cost.
