Product Description
IBM System x3690 X5 is a powerful two-socket 2U rack-mount server using the latest Intel Xeon processors. The x3690 X5 servers can be combined with the IBM MAX5 memory expansion unit for up to 2 TB of memory. Add to that the 16, 2.5-inch disk drive bays and you have a high performance workhorse in a rack-dense package. The x3690 X5 server belongs to the family of a new generation of Enterprise X-Architecture servers. The server delivers innovation with enhanced reliability and availability features to enable optimal performance for databases, enterprise applications, and virtualized environments.

Config Notes

Install: The SUSE® Linux Enterprise Server install was performed using a network install method.
Headless configuration - no graphics adapter. System configured using IBM remote Hardware Management Console (HMC) for graphics, keyboard and mouse.
Kdump: the crash kernel reserved memory parameters were changed based on the content in the following knowledge-base article for ppc64le: https://www.suse.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=3374462
Power management: The System/Processor dynamic CPU frequency scaling functionality in SLES is not supported on Power11 (PowerVM) as this functionality is provided by the Power11 hardware itself.
CPU: This system is a 2-CPU socket configuration with a 30-core dual-chip module per socket, totalling 60 cores. The Power11 2.8–3.95 GHz (Max) DCM CPUs tested each have 30 cores and, with SMT8, a total of 480 vCPU threads.
