Product Description
The Lenovo Flex System X6 Compute Node, machine type 7196, is a high-performance scalable compute node that is designed to take on the most demanding workloads. The performance, flexibility, and resiliency features enable the X6 to run mission-critical workloads, such as key business applications, database, analytics, and large virtual machine deployments. The X6 Compute Node family is composed of the x880 X6 and x480 X6. Each compute node contains two Intel Xeon E7 processors. The x880 X6 uses E7-8800 v3 processors and supports joining two or four x880 compute nodes to form a single 8-socket server with 192 DIMM slots. The x480 uses E7-4800 v3 processors and supports joining two x480 compute nodes to form a single 4-socket server with 96 DIMM slots.

Config Notes
- Kdump (SLE12SP2): the crash kernel reserved memory parameters were increased from the default to crashkernel=187M,high crashkernel=142M,low using YaST.
- Installation Kit: The lenovo_servers_thinksystem-sle12sp2-x86_64-1.0.iso installation kit is SUSE SolidDriver Program compliant. This installation kit must be downloaded and used to start the SLES installation. To obtain the installation kit go to: https://drivers.suse.com/lenovo/Lenovo-ThinkSystem/sle-12-sp2-x86_64/1.0/.
- Install: System installed using an external USB DVD drive; the OS was installed from DVD using the UEFI boot loader and system configuration. Disk configuration: single HDD configured as RAID 0, and two M.2 (boot) drives configured as a separate RAID 0.
- Serial/USB/VGA port(s): provided through KVM connector console breakout cable which supplies one RS232 serial port, one VGA port and two USB ports. The system also has one internal USB port.
- SR-IOV: System was tested using SR-IOV where a virtual network adapter was given to one SLES 12 guest. One of the integrated Flex System CN4054S 10Gb Virtual Fabric adapters was used in this testing.
