Config Notes
- Install: The SUSE® Linux Enterprise Server install was performed using a network install method.
- SUSE update ISO: The SLES-11-SP3-MINI-ISO-power8.iso is SUSE SolidDriver Program compliant. This update must be downloaded and used before SUSE Linux Enterprise Server install. To obtain the driver go to: http://drivers.suse.com/ibm/IBM-POWER/sle11-sp3/install-readme.html and review the installation instructions.
- Headless configuration - no graphics adapter. System configured using IBM remote Hardware Management Console (HMC) for graphics, keyboard and mouse.
- Power management: The System/Processor dynamic CPU frequency scaling functionality in SLES is not supported on POWER8 as this functionality is provided by the POWER8 hardware itself.
- Required configuration: SLES 11 SP3 will run in POWER7 Compatibility mode. 'Compatibility mode' simply means that the POWER8 processor with SMT8 will act as though it were a POWER7 processor with SMT4.
- Kdump: the crash kernel reserved memory parameters were changed based on the content in the following knowledge-base article: http://www.novell.com/support/kb/doc.php?id=3374462.
