Product Description
The IBM® System x3630 M4 server offers a cost-effective high-capacity storage solution with exceptional energy-smart design, leadership virtualization, and powerful systems management. It supports up to two Intel® Xeon® processors and high-density memory designs with twelve DDR3 DIMM slots. This 2U server consolidates storage and server into one system, offers easy management, and saves floor space and power consumption, allowing for less cost than traditional enterprise offerings. Designed with redundancy, flexible subsystems, and a wider range of configuration options, the x3630 M4 also offers an innovative Feature on Demand (FoD) design for an easier upgrade path.

Config Notes

Install: System installed using PXE network install; the OS was installed using the UEFI boot loader and system configuration. Disk configuration: two HDD and two M.2 (boot) drives configured as separate RAID 1 devices.
Kdump (SLE12SP3): the crash kernel reserved memory parameters were increased from the default to crashkernel=192M,high crashkernel=132M,low using YaST.
SR-IOV: System was tested using SR-IOV where a virtual network adapter was given to a SLES 12 SP3 guest. One of the integrated Ethernet Connection X722 for 1GbE adapters was used in this testing.
VM Driver Pack: All guests were tested with PV drivers installed. The SLES drivers are included with the OS. The Windows Server 2016 drivers are available from http://download.suse.com (VMDP-WIN-2.4.exe), the virtio network drivers were used during testing.
