Product Description
The PRIMERGY BX922 S2 Server Blade uses up to two Intel® Xeon® X5670 processors with 6 cores. Chipset and CPU offer comprehensive, hardware-based virtualization support, which is supplemented by the additional functions on the new onboard Gigabit Ethernet Controller Intel® 82576. The main memory configuration with up to 12 DIMM modules rounds off the picture - the road is open for consolidation strategies which are aligned with virtualization with hypervisor solutions from Suse. The design of the PRIMERGY BX922 S2 is very flexible regarding the boot options as - in addition to the increasing use of SAN or NAS - local booting via Solid State Disks is available. The efficient administration of the entire system via ServerView is supported by the integrated Remote Management Controller (iRMC S2); the hardware monitoring and setting options can thus be optimally visualized in order to use all options at the highest energy-efficiency levels. Config Notes
- Install: System installed via network PXE UEFI boot; the OS was installed using the UEFI boot loader and system configuration. Tested as a 2-node scalable partition with 8 Compute Books. Hard disk configuration: RAID 1. Xen Hypervisor: the hypervisor was booted with following additional parameters: dom0_mem=10G dom0_max_vcpus=10.
- Kdump: the crash kernel reserved memory parameter must be increased from the default value for kdump to function correctly.
- VM Driver Pack: All guests were tested with PV drivers installed. The SLES drivers are included with the OS. The Windows 2012 R2 drivers are available from http://download.suse.com (VMDP-WIN-2.2.exe).
- SR-IOV: System was tested using SR-IOV where a virtual network adapter was given to the SLES 12 FV guest and another virtual network adapter was given to the SLES 11 SP3 x86_64 FV guest. Two Intel I350-T4 ML2 GbE adapters were used in this testing.
- Maintenance update: SLES 12 Xen kernel update 333 is required and was installed on the host during certification testing. SLES 12 kernel update 333 was installed on SLES 12 FV guest, SLES 11 SP3 kernel update 10103 was installed on SLES 11 SP3 x86_64 FV guest. 64-bit guests were tested with a maximum memory configuration of 64GB.
