This document (000019589) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP0
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP5
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP4
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP3

Situation

While upgrading SLES 12 SP3/SP4/SP5 to SLES 15 SP0/SP1 using DVD (offline upgrade) the installer is not able to detect the previous installed SLES OS. Even when selecting "Show All Partitions" option nothing is being displayed.

Resolution

There might be multiple reasons for such an issue. One of them is system have "Cluster Volume Group". Usually this is part of High Availability setup. The work around for such issue is:
  • Unpresent Cluster PV LUN from Storage side and try upgrade again.
  • Open Ticket with SUSE Technical Support to get a DUD.
  • Or Use SLES 15 SP2 DVD to perform upgrade.

Cause

The YaST installer shipped with SLES 15 SP0/SP1 doesn't handle "Clustered Volume Group".
