Reduces costs, eases access to Linux for students, educational institutions and non-profit organizations

Oakland, CA

SUSE Linux today announced the launch of a new program, aimed at providing students, schools, universities and non-profit organizations better access to computing technology at a fraction of the costs of proprietary software.

Beginning November 12, students, schools, universities and non-profit organizations participating in the SUSE Linux Education Program can obtain SUSE Linux products with more than 40% discount via SUSE's channel partners CCV and RICIS. Inc.

CCV Software, a new SUSE Linux US-channel partner, is a major reseller and distributor for the education market and offers both individual users and institutions SUSE Linux Education Program products. "We are excited to provide our customers with a convenient way to purchase SUSE Linux products," said Dr. Catherine C Chandler, President/CEO of CCV. "This new program will help educational institutions to do more with their I.T. architectures despite budget constraints."

SUSE's Premium Partner RICIS, Inc. is specialized in providing educational institutions and non-profit organizations consulting, installation, configuration, migration, training, and support services for all of SuSE's enterprise class products and SUSE Linux workstation products.

The new SUSE Linux Education Program helps educational institutions to meet the need for a broad education in information technology - providing flexible, cost-efficient software solutions for educational organizations of all sizes, representing state-of-the-art Linux technology. By implementing SUSE Linux on workstations and servers, educational organizations can offer their students high-quality computing access while saving limited education budgets.

"The SUSE Linux Education Program provides the educational sector with the fastest growing high-end computing technology at an affordable price," said Holger Dyroff, General Manager, Americas, SUSE Linux. "We think this will help to drive the penetration of Linux even further by exposing the next generation of programmers and computer users to the benefits and versatility of Open Source software."

Variety of products for all areas of applications in the education sector

The SUSE Linux Education Program includes products tailored for individual users up to products for large IT infrastructures - from SUSE Linux 9.0 to products for medium-sized and large IT networks, e.g. SUSE Linux Standard Server, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server and SUSE Linux Desktop.

Running SUSE Linux 9.0 on workstations, schools benefit from a variety of applications relevant for lessons, such as text processing, spreadsheets, E-Mail clients, Internet browsers, and graphics and video editing software. For large IT infrastructures, SUSE Linux Desktop provides a user-friendly, flexible, SUSE maintained desktop that even enables users to install Microsoft Office on Linux.

Using SUSE Linux Standard Server and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, educational organizations can run their file, print, e-mail, web servers under Linux, as well as deploy the SUSE Linux server family products as applications servers, for middleware solutions such as databases, and for storage and benefit from an unprecedented stable, reliable and maintained server operating system.

Up to 40% sales discount for individual users and educational institutions

The special conditions apply to students, teachers and professors, schools, universities and all 501(3)c qualified non-profit organizations.
