Unable to register a salt minion into SUSE Manager or salt master, error: "null value in column "server_arch_id" violates not-null constraint"

This document (7023668) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Manager 3.2
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 3 (SLES 12 SP3)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 2 (SLES 12 SP2)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 1 (SLES 12 SP1)

Situation

On ppc64le architecture, registration of a Salt minion into SUSE Manager, or alternatively into any other Salt master fails with the following error in /var/log/rhn/rhn_web_ui.log:

Relevant snippet from the log :

2019-01-XX XX:YY:ZZ,205 [message-queue-thread-1] ERROR org.hibernate.engine.jdbc.spi.SqlExceptionHelper - ERROR: null value in column "server_arch_id" violates not-null constraint Detail: Failing row contains (1000010018, 1, 891f2ea41899c7787097a9d25c408ac6, null, SLES, 12.3, lvabc, null, null, qO4PpA0wNkz99x878ZC8l1pSL24vQEdsHFhISElvuibm2OqGzhJYKkQdC3ICFWJW, 4, N, 0, 4.4.73-7-default, 1547734600, null, null, null, 891f2ea41899c7787097a9d25c408ac6, lvabc, 2019-01-XX XX:YY:ZZ.137126+01, 2019-01-XX XX:YY:ZZ.137126+01).

Resolution

This issue has been fixed, and a patch for this has been submitted to be included in an an upcoming maintenance release.
Until this patch is generally available, a mass-PTF (program temporary fix) was been made available, so that customers can continue using their systems.

Versions up to 3.0-46.47.2 would be affected, the following version with a higher version number should include this patch.

The PTF with the fix included can be found and installed from the link below.

Important note : only the ppc64le architecture is affected by this issue, and this PTF is only to be installed on the minions(!), never on the master (not even if the master is also ppc64le).

Cause

The incorrect architecture string was called in the code (powerpc64le instead of ppc64le). This prevented a successful registration.
