HP 3PAR array has moved to support ALUA

This document (7020971) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 4 (SLES 11 SP4)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 Service Pack 3 (SLES 11 SP3)

Situation

HP 3PAR array has moved to support ALUA. Starting in SLES12-GA, the defaults for "3PARdata" devices have been changed and updated,
however those changes were not back ported to SLES11 due to the potential for conflicts.

Since the built-in defaults in SLES11 will not be changed for 3PARData devices, it is recommended to follow vendor supplied configurations for the device, as seen under Resolution.
The change is to override the defaults of what's built into the multipath hardware table with the correct settings.

Resolution

Updated device settings in multipath.conf should be:
device {
                vendor "3PARdata"
                product "VV"
                path_grouping_policy "group_by_prio"
                path_checker "tur"
                hardware_handler "1 alua"
                prio "alua"
                rr_weight "uniform"
                no_path_retry "18"
                failback "immediate"
        }
