SUSE Launches Professional Services Division In The United States

OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA

Today, SUSE Linux, the international technology leader and solution provider in open source operating system (OS) software, announced their Professional Services Division for the US Market. Professional Services provides Linux solutions for start-up businesses in the U.S., initially focusing on the San Francisco Bay Area. The American division has put together an international team of engineers to form the US consultant team. SUSE Professional Services combines ultimate German engineering quality with the aggressive business techniques found in the U.S. market.

SUSE offers high availability clustering, managed co-location, open source ecommerce, 2nd and 3rd tier technical support, and load balancing web server solutions running on enterprise class hardware. SUSE Linux runs on Alpha, Intel, PowerPC, RS/6000, and of course, the IBM S/390 mainframe.

"SUSE Professional Services is unique because SUSE has partnerships with companies like Arkeia, Oracle, IBM, Compaq, and PolyServe. For example, we provide the Level 1 technical support for Compaq. SUSE also directly contributes code to projects like XFree86 and the Linux kernel. With its international standing in the Linux market, technical expertise, and eight years of Linux business experience, SUSE Professional Services is obviously the best choice for businesses seeking Linux expertise. With the launch of the U.S. Professional Service division, we are able to leverage this expertise in the enterprise community, allowing the continued migration to Linux." Said Volker Wiegand, president of SUSE Inc. in Oakland.

"SUSE provided invaluable support and expertise when we moved to the Oracle 8i database on Linux. The SUSE Linux team effectively operated in the background and assured a smooth transition for our Web-based telecom billing application." said Adam Nathanson, president of Switch Management. Switch Management, an Oakland-based telecom software company and SUSE Linux customer, recently implemented the Oracle 8i database.

The Professional Services division has been in operation in Europe for 6 years and has supported such clients as DESY (Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron), the German Government, Federal Institute for Agriculture and Food (Bundesanstalt für Landwirtschaft und Ernährung), the Oldenburgische Landesbank - a large German public bank and WEB.DE a very succesful German ASP.

Pricing is based on the scope of each project. Other SUSE services such as fee-based telephone technical support and training will be added in Q4.
