Overview

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server (SLES) is our flagship product. This webinar will provide an overview of the product and our support services, along with an explanation of why SUSE is recommended and preferred by SAP. 99.9 percent of all SAP HANA installations in the world run on SLES.

SUSE supports a wide variety of third-party software vendors, from mission-critical databases, e-commerce applications and ERP systems, to email, file and print servers and web application servers.

SUSE is right at home in today's data centers, which house a wide range of systems and platforms. Most leading hardware vendors support our Linux server OS, so you can save money by using your existing physical servers or new, low-cost commodity hardware.

"The quality of technical support from SUSE is excellent, and helps us to keep critical systems available to the organization around the clock. And with our licensing agreement, we have a single point of contact for coordinated support services from SUSE and SAP, whether the issue lies in the operating system or the application layer."
- Anthony McGuigan, Network Services Manager, Fire and Rescue New South Wales

Software Defined Everything

Tuesday 22 March, 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.

Presenter: PETER CHADWICK, Senior Product Manager of Cloud Infrastructure Solutions

Peter Chadwick

Pete has more than 20 years of experience at global technology organizations such as IBM, US Robotics, 3Com and Novell®. He has worked with providers such as Amazon, Google and Microsoft to bring SUSE Linux Enterprise Server to public clouds.

He currently champions SUSE's work with and contributions to OpenStack, resulting in the release of SUSE OpenStack Cloud.

In addition to participating in the Enterprise Working Group of the OpenStack Foundation, Pete has presented at the OpenStack Summit as well as other industry events including, LinuxCon, CloudOpen, Brainshare®, SUSECON®, Open Source Business Conference, Gartner Data Center Conference and Cloud Computing Expo.

Overview

Software defined storage is the process of separating the physical storage hardware (data plane) from the data storage management logic or "intelligence" (control plane). This storage solution requires no proprietary hardware components, enabling the use of off-the-shelf, low-cost commodity hardware.

As enterprises move workloads from physical to virtual systems, they need virtual networking on the hosts that provides the same advanced functions as a physical switch. Open vSwitch is a virtual switch for hypervisors, providing network connectivity to virtual machines. It optimizes networking in a virtual environment, making it a building block for software-defined networking.

In this session, we will present the latest advances in data center virtualization and the management tools needed to deploy, monitor and maintain an increasingly complex environment.

"SUSE solutions offer Pacific Textiles the mission critical platform we need to deliver services to support the execution of our strategic business goals."

Presenter: JOACHIM WERNER, Senior Product Manager

Joachim Werner

Joachim has been in product management with SUSE for over 10 years, working out of the SUSE headquarters in Nuremberg, Germany. Today his areas of expertise are SUSE Manager and systems management for Enterprise Linux.

Overview

This talk provides an overview on how SUSE Manager can be integrated with other systems management, monitoring, and automation software in a heterogeneous IT environment through its rich APIs.

We will also provide an overview of what to expect in the upcoming release, both in terms of incremental improvements in scalability, speed, and ease of use as well as in terms of completely new features like the revamped subscription management, the Salt-based configuration management and our story for monitoring.

SUSE Manager 3 will be released in Q2, 2016.

"Looking to the future, our operating costs are now clearly lower because the SUSE technologies make it easy to manage our SAP landscape. For example, SUSE Manager makes it fast and easy to monitor and schedule patching across our 60 operating system instances. We have a single console and we can easily access the patching status of any machine—this saves a huge amount of time and effort for systems administrators."
- Dr. Vineet Bansal, CI, Greenply
