SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 11 Service Pack 3

Situation

After using the command reboot to power cycle the server it does not restart but shuts down.

Resolution

To check whether the affected driver is loaded on your system, run following command:

Blacklisting of the driver can be performed as follows (execute as root user):

  1. At the bottom of configuration /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist place the entry with the name of affected driver to look like this:

    blacklist mei

  2. Within the /etc/modprobe.d directory create a file corresponding the name of affected driver

    mei

  3. Edit the mei file to contain the following entry

    install mei /bin/true

  4. Restart the system

    shutdown -r now

Cause

The mei driver is not compatible with many server chipsets.
