Mainframe Toolset enhances system availability, responsiveness, flexibility and resilience and recovery

Oakland, CA, Santa Clara, CA

UTS Global, LLC today announced the certification of the UTS Global mainframe tools for the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, powered by United Linux - adding a powerful set of mission-critical tools to the mainframe.

UTS Global Storage products increase data center system reliability and availability, operations responsiveness, flexibility, resilience and failsafe capabilities -- reducing IT costs, enhancing operational efficiency, improving time-to-value for deployment of new capabilities and quality of service. UTS Global diagnostic tools expedite the problem-solving of Linux mainframe kernel problems.

By joining the SUSE Technology Partner Program, UTS Global will exchange technology for R&D, support, and sales promotion with SUSE and will certify and provide support services for all of its Linux mainframe infrastructure tools for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server -- further augmenting high-availability, reliability and supportability for Linux on the mainframe.

"We look forward to collaborating with SUSE Linux to provide some of the critical tools that enterprise customers need for their largest production application platform servers," said Thomas Lee, General Manager for UTS Global. "We have a long successful history of developing and supporting Unix® on mainframes, and now we are making some of the reliability and availability-specific features of UTS Unix® available as separate products that run under Linux."

"With extreme failsafe capabilities, easy manageability, and substantial cost savings, mainframes have proven to be an ideal platform for massive workload computing in enterprises throughout the world," said Jürgen Geck, VP Technology Partners at SUSE Linux. "With UTS Global's product portfolio for mainframes, running on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server, corporate customers can expect the tremendous scalability and reliability that makes this combination the ideal choice for mission-critical computing."

Combining its in-depth kernel expertise of Linux and mainframe, UTS Global offers the world class support services to Linux on S/390 and zSeries customers in a production environment where high reliability, availability and serviceability are "must-have" requirements.

About UTS Global, LLC

UTS Global has over 15 years of experience with the UNIX® operating system on IBM® mainframe and compatible systems. In May of 2000, UTS Global, LLC was created as a spin-off from Amdahl, now Fujitsu. They have continued to develop and support the UTS Unix® that many large telecommunications companies rely on to achieve 99.999% reliability. Since becoming an independent company, UTS Global has also applied its expert knowledge of the UNIX operating system kernel to enhance Linux on the mainframe. UTS Global has converted some of the most unique and well-known mainframe infrastructure features of UTS Unix® to products that run under Linux. These include products for managing large mainframe tape facilities like StorageTek silo, speeding up IP network traffic to Cisco routers, and a 3270-based full screen text editor. In addition, UTS Global has developed new applications on mainframe Linux (and other) platforms, such as Back-up and Restore, Distributed Tape Server (DTS) and the Virtual Tape Server.
