Alliance Helps Gateway Enterprise Systems Division Provide Secure Linux Solutions for Businesses and Institutions

LAS VEGAS (COMDEX)

Maximizing IT cost savings and ease of administration for its business and institutional customers, Gateway today announced it will sell and support SUSE Linux across its entire line of enterprise-class servers.

The new alliance with SUSE, a leading provider of Linux software and services, further strengthens Gateway's commitment to enterprise customers, creating a single point of purchase, support and maintenance for SUSE Linux Standard Server 8 and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 operating systems.

Now offered with Gateway's 955, 975, and 995 rackmount servers and its 960 and 980 tower servers for use in high-performance computing, high-availability/failover, and large database deployments, SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 is an ideal operating system for education institutions, government institutions and large enterprises. SUSE Linux Standard Server 8 is a model operating system for the "edge" of the network inside of small, medium, and large businesses, and is now offered with Gateway's 920, 955, 960, 975 and 980 servers for file/print, web serving, mail, cache, and firewall deployments. All Gateway servers are SUSE Linux certified.

"Businesses of all sizes are increasingly looking to the security, flexibility and cost advantages of Linux-based solutions to address IT needs throughout their organizations," said Scott Weinbrandt, senior vice president and general manager of Gateway's Enterprise Systems Division. "SUSE's status as the first Linux distributor to achieve the federal Common Criteria standard for security is clear proof of the company's strength as an enterprise market partner."

SUSE Linux traditionally partners with top software and hardware vendors to bring end-to-end Linux solutions to the enterprise, and was the first Linux distributor to achieve the federal Common Criteria (CC) standard, marking its products' rigorous security standards and excellent performance in mission-critical environments.

"Our alliance with Gateway Enterprise Systems Division signals yet another significant milestone in global recognition and adoption of Linux as an enterprise-ready operating system solution for businesses everywhere," said Holger Dyroff, general manager, Americas, SUSE Linux. "Gateway systems and support, coupled with SUSE software, provides customers with a true win-win situation. And Gateway will continue to serve as a single point of accountability for customers that migrate or choose the SUSE platform on Gateway."

Through the Gateway-SUSE alliance, Gateway now offers fully validated, tested, and SUSE-certified Gateway servers. In addition, Gateway provides a single point of contact for support on all Gateway hardware and SUSE software. Gateway also offers a standard one-year maintenance service for patches and driver updates on every operating system sold with a Gateway server.
