SUSE Linux Database Server Combines SUSE Linux 7.0 with IBM's DB2 Universal Database

Nuremberg, Germany

SUSE Linux AG and IBM combine the stability and security of Linux with the scalability and performance of the DB2 Universal Database to provide a cross-platform solution. SUSE Linux Database Server provides companies with a basis for their e-business that expands with their growing demands and success.

As with SUSE Linux, the DB2 product family also supports a wide range of hardware. This combination is perfectly suited for data exchange between different platforms as well as for the implementation of very large databases on different hardware architectures.

The comprehensive scalability of DB2 Universal Database provides flexibility from small PC database to terabyte data warehouse. With its object relational extenders, DB2 can also support data types such as images, videos, audio files and text documents and has everything needed to allow easy integration with Internet applications. DB2 Universal Database is a winner because of its extremely reliable relational database functionality, LDAP and Unicode support, transaction orientated performance (OLTP), object relational extensions as well as first class optimizer technology.

During the last six months, with enormous effort and success SUSE have created the prerequisites for using Linux as an enterprise operating system for e-business applications. Principal innovations include the establishment of the Reiser File System with journaling functionality as well as the introduction of a Logical Volume Manager. With improved raw device support, LFS (Large File Support) and 4 GB main memory addressing, SUSE Linux is today also strongly recommended as a stable and cost-efficient server system for very large and complex database applications.

In addition to SUSE Linux server version, SUSE Linux Database Server includes a multi-user version of the DB2 database for applications and data used in a work group or a department with a PC based LAN.
