SUSE and Ericsson Strengthen Cooperation with New Licensing Agreement

SUSE® and Ericsson announced they will extend their cooperation around platforms for system development. Ericsson has used SUSE Linux Enterprise Server as platform for software development for many years, mainly due to its performance, stability, scalability and flexibility. Another important aspect for Ericsson is the first-class support and service SUSE is known for, which also includes SUSE taking an active part in their customers’ development projects to ensure a smooth process.

”Our mission is to develop and market powerful and scalable solutions which help our customers transform their infrastructure for the next generation network solutions,” said Mattias Cedergren, manager, Linux Center, at Ericsson. “SUSE has proven to be a very strong alliance partner for us at Ericsson. Their products meet our high demands and helps us develop competitive solutions. But also, their support during the development process is at least as important.”

A modern and efficient infrastructure is absolutely necessary in order to support the requirements for the IT infrastructure. With an increasing share of cloud-based solutions and what is sometimes called software defined x – which refers to ways of designing software-defined storage and networking – the open source community is in the driver’s seat. This lead comes mainly from being powered by a large, worldwide community driving the development together, solving issues, and sharing their solutions with each other.

“Telecom operators and solution providers developing and marketing systems must be able to feel complete confidence in their solutions and in the platforms they base their solutions on,” said Carl Lindén, head of SUSE in Sweden. “Today, SUSE’s products are being used in several of Ericsson’s products. Last year, Ericsson awarded us the Ericsson Supplier Award 2016 for SUSE’s ability to adapt and integrate our solutions in complex environments. And as a result of this work, we are now expanding our cooperation.”

The cooperation between Ericsson and SUSE is now strengthened through a new license model, making it easier for Ericsson to base its virtualized solutions for operators and enterprise customers on SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.

”Our cooperation with Ericsson extends well beyond a regular supplier-customer relationship,” Lindén said. “Over the last few years, we have been co-developing our products together with Ericsson’s extremely skilled and involved developers so our cooperation is a true win-win for both parties.”
