Setting of Samba Primary Group SID after 3.0.23 (SAMBA) (LDAP)
This document (3323463) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.
Environment
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9
Situation
pdbedit -v -u test5
gives for user test5
Primary Group SID: S-1-5-21-2832020676-840558856-594110992-513
and no matter what you try to change this seems to be fixed. This was changed in Samba 3.0.23. The primary group is no longer taken from the SambaPrimaryGroupSID attribute, because of issues with conflicts between the unix primary group and the samba primary group.
But you would like to have a few users be actually members of the Domain Admin Group, but this would require a RID of 512.
Resolution
net groupmap add rid=512 unixgroup=512
and then check
net groupmap list
should give
512 (S-1-5-21-2832020676-840558856-594110992-512) -> ntadmin
then you change the gidnumber of the user (in my test this is test6) to 512 in LDAP and then you check with
pdbedit -v -u test6
and get finally
Primary Group SID: S-1-5-21-2832020676-840558856-594110992-512
