Migrating a SLES 15 SP1 system to SLES for SAP Applications 15 SP1

This document (7024138) is provided subject to the disclaimer at the end of this document.

Environment

SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 15 SP1
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP1 (ppc64le)
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 15 SP1 (ppc64le)

Situation

A running SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 SP1 server needs to be migrated to SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications 15 SP1 without reinstalling it.

Note: This conversion is not possible in public cloud, with the exception of BYOS systems.

Resolution

Use an interactive script.

With SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 15 Service Pack 1 the related script is shipped as an official product package.

It can be directly installed with the following command:

    # zypper in migrate-sles-to-sles4sap

After installation run the interactive script and follow the on screen instructions:

 # sudo /usr/sbin/Migrate_SLES_to_SLES_for_SAP.sh

It is not required that the system (the source system) is already registered but it will be registered during the migration process.

For that registration the script can use:
  • SUSE Customer Center (SCC).
  • Local Repository Mirroring Tool Server (RMT).
  • Local SUSE Subscription Management Tool server (SMT).

Using the SUSE Customer Center (SCC) it is required to have your email address as well as a valid registration key for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server for SAP Applications (the target system) at hand.

NOTE: In case packages are installed that have dependencies against IBM Java, it may be needed to reinstall them at the end of the procedure.

A reboot of the system is not necessary unless packages which require a reboot are also installed from the newly added channels.

Additional Information

To support the migration script, you also need to install:

perl-XML-Twig
